When arguing issues relating to the validity of Biblical verses, why do Christians cite the Bible?

Reported for thinking that beyond "proof" that the Bible is true is inherent in the fact that societies the Bible talked about actually exisited (which seems like it would prove that the Bible was simply written by people who lived in a particular location at a particular time) that there is any evidence for the truth of the Bible beyond the Bible and "looking around at creation."
