I just don't understand Christians who oppose the theory of evolution?

I have been in Catholic schools since I was little, and they only taught the theory of evolution never the Creationism, and it wasn't even my school. I had other friends in schools where the teachers were only nuns and they did the same. So, why is the obsession of teaching Creationism now by Christians today?
